Very instructive as to the skill level of this group: basically, they don't know shit from shinola, which isn't surprizing considering how much basic training, let alone experience, most of these guys have. Send them to Tze'elim, against a tailor made OPFOR, and you'll get a casualty rate of 90 % within a week of training. The fact that they are nonetheless tells me a lot about the state of dereliction of the regular army. It's pretty obvious Kiev created the National Guard because of reliability issues with the Ukrainian army ... Also quite instructive to know.

They want to be there, they defending own nation and country against aggression. Good commander can turn them in to excellent fighting unit because the fighting spirit they already have.

The Ukrainians rotated a good number of forces through Iraq and Afghanistan both regular and SOF type. That style is a common theme gained from that base experience.
The Russian plant that ran Ukraine for the last few cycles before being removed did his level best to gut the Ukrainian military and corrupt whatever he couldn't destroy. Just like the plant we currently have here in the states gutting maintenance, training, replacement you end up looking good on paper but its hollow.
C-Low, I've seen Ukrainian troops in sandbox countries, and I know what I'm seeing when I look at this vid. But both you and Shas are obviously free to believe what you like. I wonder what all the fuss is about anyway. It's public info that foreign volunteers have joined donbass battalion ! Anyway, if this guy is a Ukrainian regular with operational experience, as you're suggesting, WTF is he doing in a privately funded militia ? Even if he was no longer active duty, they're having their 3rd wave of military draft in Ukraine as we speak, so I guess, guys with such an experience would have been called back to their units long ago ... Before the 'events' ukraine wanted to transfer to a fully profesional army.. But thoose were only empty promises by politicians. Officers and NCO are professional, soldiers corporals are conscrpipts.
Another thing , where are the specialised units of the ministry of interior ? Berkut units.
The question is, why did they not use this unit ( or other good prepared police forces) at the early stages of the 'troubles' in slavains and donetsk . Remeber for how months this has been going on.
Here is the crazy thing, in a US city "uber" armed police respond to a nonexistent threath. And in the ukraine , when really at the start of this "insurgensy,rebellion,freedom fight" there was a clear need for a police force ala type Ferguson . They did nothing just sit it out.

This one looks like it is a being held in reserve just in case. Lot's of vehicles, pretty uniforms and clean gear. I bet it's being held to protect Kiev.

I feel for Ukraine, but their political leadership seems ham-handed and clumsy. You don't hold parades with pretty-boy paratroopers when you have guys with barely any training or equipment holding on to ground with their fingertips, facing off rebels and Russian paratroopers.
I'm not sure the leadership enjoys the "Mandate of Heaven"
Berkut units were disbanded right after the february events in Kiev. Givent mots of these guys were from Eastern Ukraine, they got sent home, getting a good beating on the way from right wing acitivists. Result being that they probably had 4-5 months of basic infrantry training in addition to their riot police experience and are now fighting with the Seppos ...

They are volunteers that are fighting for Ukraine not regular army unit, training was very basically and most of experience they take on the field.
